Supporting the Circular Economy in Ireland

Supporting the Circular Economy in Ireland

In 2020, as part of Ireland’s National Waste Policy, it was announced that the country would be striving to achieve and sustain a circular economy. In simple terms, a circular economy involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products for as long as possible. This way, the life cycle of products is extended.

In order to achieve a circular economy, everybody needs to play their part — both businesses and households alike! Ireland has ambitious targets to achieve as part of the National Waste Policy, including making all packaging reusable or recyclable by 2030. Shifting to a circular economy is the best option for the environment, so here’s how you can play your part:

Repair instead of chucking!

The Repair My Stuff online directory makes it easy to find a local professional to repair your items; from large appliances to leather and shoes. Repairing is the most environmentally-friendly option for possessions, and by opting to use a local professional, you’ll be getting a quality, cost-effective repair whilst supporting a local business.

If it can’t be repaired, choose to recycle!

We’re partnered with WEE Ireland, a not-for-profit organisation that manages the collection of household electrical waste to support the circular economy in Ireland! This partnership makes it easier than ever to find more eco-conscious methods of repairing or disposing of your electronic products, when repairing isn’t possible.

Sharing is caring!

If your item isn’t in need of repair, but you just don’t fancy keeping it, consider donating it to a friend, neighbour, family member or charity shop! Whilst recycling is the most eco-friendly way of disposing of waste, a byproduct of industrial-scale recycling is carbon emissions. It’s much kinder to hand your item down, as this benefits the environment and the potential new owner!

Play your role in spearheading a circular economy in Ireland. For all your repair needs, be sure to check out the Repair My Stuff directory — a resource which boasts a huge range of professionals around your local area.
