The European Recycling Platform (ERP)

The European Recycling Platform (ERP) was founded in 2002 as the first pan-European organisation to implement the European Union’s regulations on the recycling of electrical and electronic waste (WEEE Directive). Now part of the Landbell Group, ERP manages a consolidated network and has developed vast international expertise, expanding its recycling services to include batteries as well as packaging. Created by producers for producers, over 32,712 customers trust ERP to manage their compliance.

European Recycling Platform Ireland DAC was established in 2005 because of the success and expansion of ERP across Europe. ERP is Ireland’s only pan-European compliance scheme, providing WEEE and Waste Battery compliance and a B2B service to members.

Operating 32 producer responsibility organisations for waste electrical and electronic equipment, batteries and packaging across 14 countries, The European Recycling Platform has contributed to the circular economy for over 20 years and is well placed to support Repairmystuff.ie in this initiative.

White Goods Association Information

The White Goods Association (WGA) is the voice of the white goods, or large appliances, industry in Ireland. It is established as a trade association within Ibec, representing companies who manufacture, supply or distribute white goods in Ireland. It also works closely with the Government and other stakeholders in the industry to ensure a sustainable and competitive industry. The WGA provides guidance, commentary and advice on issues including legal and regulatory developments of relevance to the white goods industry.

Ibec provides executive support for the member led organisation. Meetings are held with member companies on a bi-monthly basis or more frequently if required. Topics for discussion include general industry updates and existing and forthcoming legislation. The WGA also issues monthly industry sales figures, which are compiled for the WGA by Ibec in compliance with competition law.

It is also an important partner of WEEE Ireland, helping to ensure that existing regulations are met by producers and retailers alike. The WGA also plays a key role as a bi-directional information conduit between its members and WEEE Ireland, helping to form practical and effective future policy and practices. In 2020, an estimated 132,700 products were repaired by WGA’s members (dss+, 2022).

The WGA in Ireland is an affiliate Member of the European Home Appliance Trade Association, APPliA. APPLiA Senior Corporate Policy Manager, Candice Richaud, says “repair should be promoted whenever economically viable.” The Right to Repair Directive is a cornerstone of the EU’s plan to achieve a circular economy by 2050 as part of the European Green Deal. The trade association notes repair as the first remedy in the hierarchy and says its members welcome this change.

WEEE Ireland

Waste, Electrical and Electronic Equipment

WEEE Ireland is a not-for-profit organisation, founded by Producers of electrical and electronic appliances to help them comply with their Extended Producer Responsibilities (EPR), imposed by the EU and Irish WEEE and Battery Directives and Regulation. WEEE Ireland manages the collective compliance and collection of household e-waste and waste batteries from authorised collection points for recycling and recovery on behalf of nearly 1,400 producer members. WEEE Ireland supports the transition to a Circular Economy and has developed a Circular Strategy to play their part in sustainable change. See the Close the E-Loop microsite for more information on WEEE Ireland, Members and Partners activities in developing a Circular Economy.

WEEE Ireland’s microsite, Close the E-Loop, is a hub of circular activities among Irish retailers and producers. The aim of the website is to highlight to consumers the significant steps that are being taken to achieve a more circular Ireland. WEEE Ireland is committed to leading the electronic and electrical industry towards a more circular economic model for their extended producer responsibilities, highlighting that waste has value and that certain raw materials are extremely precious. For more information, please visit: https://www.weeeireland.ie/our-story/close-the-weeeloop-new/.

WEEE Ireland in conjunction with the White Goods Association and industry have nominated authorised repairers as agents for certain white good products. We hope that this way the consumer will know who to contact in an emergency for the repair of certain white goods items.
